Alasdair_sDr Alasdair Mac Arthur, Chair

alasdair.macarthur@ed.ac.uk

GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh

Alasdair’s research interests are in the development of hyperspectral remote sensing instrument systems and field sampling methodologies for measuring and monitoring the natural environment, its spatial variability and temporal change. He is also interested in the use of advanced physically-based analytical approaches (radiative transfer modelling) to model change in Earth surface reflectance and retrieve biophysical parameters from air- and space-borne sensor systems.  Alasdair is a senior research in passive Earth observation and co-investigator in the BBSRC ATEC ( click here for more information) project led by Prof. Mat Williams at GeoSciences, UofE.

Maria Pilar Cendrero Mateo is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher with the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences Plant Sciences, Forschungszentrum, Jülich, Germany. Her research is focused on translating biophysical traits of plants towards the emission of chlorophyll fluorescence and reflectance vegetation indices. It includes experiments from the growth chamber to the greenhouse towards whole agricultural fields.

Dr Micol Rossini, Final Conference Leader

micol.rossini@unimib.it

Remote Sensing of Environmental Dynamics Laboratory, DISAT, Università degli Studi Milano-Bicocca

Micol’s research is focused on developing novel remote sensing methods for the monitoring, measuring and modeling of natural environments. She’s particularly interested in investigating the relation between productivity of terrestrial ecosystems and high spectral resolution remote measurements and estimating sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence from field and airborne high resolution data.

Albert Dr Andreas Hueni, Working Group 1 Leader (spectral information systems)

andreas.hueni@geo.uzh.ch

Remote Sensing Laboratories, Dept. of Geography, University of Zurich.

Andreas obtained a first degree in computer science in Switzerland and returned to the academic world after a few years in the airline related IT industry. He completed a postgrad diploma in GIS and an MPhil(Sc) degree in Earth Science (Remote Sensing) at Massey University, New Zealand. In 2007 he started a PhD degree at the Remote Sensing Laboratories (UZH), University of Zurich, Switzerland, which finished in early 2011. The main topics of the PhD were spectral databases and imaging spectrometer processing and archiving systems. Results of the PhD are the operational spectral database SPECCHIO (www.specchio.ch) and the APEX (Airborne Prism Experiment) PAF, which has been successfully used for operational APEX data processing from RAW to level1 (radiometric, spectral and geometric calibration) since the first test flights of APEX in 2008.

In 2011 Andreas was involved in further development of the spectral database SPECCHIO in the frameworks of the Australian National Data Service (ANDS dc-10), the EuroSpec COST action. Currently running projects related to the spectral database SPECCHIO include the OPTIMISE COST action and the NASA sponsored EcoSIS project. Andreas is currently employed as a postdoc at UZH and continues to work in the APEX project where he is responsible for the operational instrument and data calibration and the refinement of calibration procedures.).

Dr Helge Aasen, Working Group 2 coordinator

helge.aasen@usys.ethz.ch

ETH Zürich, Department of Environmental Systems Science, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Switzerland

Helge’s research interest is in retrieving biophysical and biochemical plant parameters from (hyper-) spectral imaging sensors applied from low altitude sensing systems. At ETH Zürich, Helge looks into interactions of canopy structure and spectral reflectance. Additionally, he looks into scaling issues from leaf to canopy scale by combining proximal and UAV sensing methods.

Dr Karolina Sakowska, Dissemination Leaderprofile photo_SAKOWSKA

sakowska.karo@gmail.com

Department of Sustainable Crop Production, Spatial Analysis and Remote Sensing Research Center,  Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore,  via Emilia Parmense 84, 29122 Piacenza,  Italy

Karolina obtained a PhD title in micrometeorology and remote sensing in the summer of 2016. Her PhD project was mainly focused on investigating the major factors controlling the exchange of carbon dioxide (CO2) between terrestrial ecosystems and the atmosphere by means of the eddy covariance (EC) technique and on linking CO2 fluxes and biophysical parameters with optical sampling of vegetation. She is currently employed as a postdoc in a project aiming at utilising the Sentinel-2 satellite data for crop classification, management and monitoring.

Dr Laura Mihai, Dissemination coordinator

laura.mihai@inflpr.ro

Photonics Investigations Laboratory (PhIL), Center for Advances Lasers Technologies, National Institute for Laser Plasma and Radiation Physics-INFLPR, Romania

Laura started her research experience at the Atmosphere Physics and Earth Department from University of Bucharest in 2007, starting as a master student in this field. In 2008 she obtained a PhD POSDRU grant to study, at the same department, the contribution of atmospheric components on the radiative balance of the Earth surface, at local scale, combining experimental and modelled data (MODTRAN). Since 2013, she is a scientific researcher at the Photonics Laboratory (PhiL) from Center for Advanced Laser Technologies – INFLPR. In period 2012 – 2014 she was involved in “Drought monitoring based on space and in-situ data – DROMOSIS” project (financed by the Space Technology and Advanced Research Programme of the Romanian Space Agency), being in charge with field measurements, data processing and analysis. One of her main research interests are in developing calibration and characterization procedures/protocols for different systems used for field spectroscopy.
